Party Nite

Somehow each time we plan for a trip to London, we started off with about 6 people and at the last minute, it doubled. So there was about 12 to 13 of us last night. Again, in such a big group, most of the time, there'll be people who will be unhappy waiting for this who and that who.. If someone is left behind, we have to wait, which is the right thing to do.. If your friend's feet is hurting and can't walk too fast, you wait, right.. But there are some who didn't want to wait cause they are tired and that they want to go home. My opinion is, you come in a group, you go back in a group, unless you have an appointment.. Oherwise there shouldn't be any excuse of leaving your dear friend behind. If you don't want to wait, go out alone next time or in pairs.

Anyway, leave the complains behind. It was a pretty long day; had lectures the whole day then dinner and later at night, all of us went to London to party. We had no idea where we were going but we definitely know that we are going to stay the night in London somewhere by the streets or in some club or bar. That's what we did!! Wooof.. Went to 2 clubs and have some fun, met some nice and weird people and that's the night.. After some tiring hours dancing, everyone was hungry.. so we went to grab some sandwich from subway until they closed. From there, we walked to Kings Cross to take the 1st train out, back to Hatfield. When we got home, we had the energy for a short grocery shopping then finally, get home to my best friend, my bed...

On the way to party!!! But it took us 2 hours to get there.. Bus and underground takes time.

I kinda like walking by the streets of London at night with the lights on, people eating pizza, burger and sandwich by the streets after partying, shops are all closed but it's different to look at the expensive furniture and instruments through the glass and imagining how those furnitures would fit in my dream home.. All these minus the drunk people vomitting and walking into people.

We missed the 1st train so we had time for the picture taking session like this while waiting for the very next one to arrive.

Met a nice, funny, toned chap that night, which was a plus point, covering all the complains i had. So, it wasn't too bad, my night.. :D He's not English; a Norwegian who's going back home on Sunday.

*more pix coming up > most pics are in my friend's camera*

Future hair stylist

Do you think i have potential as a hairstylist? :) When i was younger, i have always liked to play with hair, tie them up beautifully, and i never let my mum tie my hair even in primary. I like to tie it my way and i have it of different styles all the time. I even play with my barbie dolls hair!! Hehe.. and i have a chance to cut a friend's hair.. this is my 2nd time cutting hair for people. The 1st one was a my classmate/ housemate in Cyberjaya 2 years back and the most recent one, a girl from Norway. I came back from her room, just a while ago.. I feel pretty good now.. I just CUT her hair.. and she let me cut her hair.. Well, she need to get rid of her dry ends so i was just there to help her out.. I thin i did a pretty good job.. Not bad at all.. i think it's a really good start.. Yoohoo... (*wink*)

If i could layer and style like this, i'll start charging. It's good money.. Better money than working part time in a restaurant..

Weirdo

Has this ever happened to any of you? A stranger suddenly popped into a closed discussion room in the library where you and your group members are in a middle of a discussion.. He opened the door, came in and said.. "Hey.. What are you doing? What course are you studying? Where are you from? Can i come in and sit? What book are you reading?" (*eyebrows raised*)He just invited himself in as if he was welcomed.. Ain't that rude and weird!!!

24 months in the hospital!!

Since me and my group have decided to tackle the RSA brief on Design for Patient Safety: Re-desgin of hospital catering services, we went to the nearest hospital, the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (QE2) for a first hand research.

We are trying to understand the whole catering process from food preparation to serving of food to patients and cleaning up. Therefore, we went to the hospital to interview some people. We managed to interview a Ward Manager and a patient, an old man about the age of 80 who has been staying in the ward for 24 months now. Can you imagine him eating the same food for 2 years??!?!! Well, he did.. There's a standard weekly menu... So he could practically memorize the menu by now. He's a very friendly and helpful old man... Maybe through more of this research, we are able to improve the hospital catering service through products, communication or system...

Stressful trip

While sipping the cranberry & elder flower tea from my black ceramic mug after vacuuming my room, i was thinking about yesterday's supposedly fun trip turned into a stressful trip. There were 10 of us including me. There were so many of us, it made everything difficult except that we could get the group day pass for the underground, which did indeed save us a lot. Why did i mention it was stressful, well, first, we were suppose to meet at the bus stop at 8am in the morning but half of them came half hour late and luckily the bus was late too. But when were gonna board the bus, we found out that the bus ticket was way too expensive, as expensive as taking the train so we decided not to take the Greeline bus and take the Uno 614 bus instead with is way m uch cheaper. And since we missed the 1st cheap bus, we waited for another half hour for that bus. When we reached Queensbury (zone 4), the final stop of the bus, we decided to get the day pass for the tube and when we were about to take the tube to the central, they told us the train won't be stopping at the Queensbury station yesterday as there are some repairing of some sort going on so we have to get to the nearest station, the Wembley Park station by the bus shuttle. From there, we went to ou first destination, Nottinghill. I really like Nottinghill. Well, it isn't like the central but it has got a lovely neighbourhood and small cafes by the roadside with trees and it is quiet, not busy at all. I would love to stay there but it's not very affordable. There are posh cars parked by the road.

That'll be Portobello market in Nottinghill. There are many antiques and cafes and bakeries. But most of the stuff sold there are kind of expensive. I saw this very beautiful leather bag which is 125 pounds!!! That's almost 900 ringgit!!

Group picture....

That's some pretty cool toaster i saw in Covent Garden. And on the right is the Wembley Stadium. While me and my other friend was waiting for the rest for more almost an hour. And that was when we all missed the bus to go back to Hatfield. Then we have to take the tube back to Kingscross to catch the train which will cost us more.

Overall, this trip was a little stressful but i did pamper myself with some good food. Me and the few friends had some good food in Chinatown for lunch, ordering dishes and rice, just like what we used to do back home in Malaysia. Then later in the evening, had my favourite.. ICE CREAM.. from Haagen Daz.. Really tastes different. So the trip wasn't all the bad... Some plus and minus here and there that made it more neutral...

Library mini cinema

Those are my 2 group members.. The chinese guy's from Hong Kong and the other guy is from India. We were in the discussion room in the Learning Resource Centre (library) and gosh, we like the discussion room so much.. It has ia a very big room with white board, very big meeting table and chairs and there's even a computer, projector and speakers in the room.. We could even watch movie from there.. Kinda cool yeah.. Well, we were watching a film titled 'An Inconvenient Truth', a documentary on global warming then later before we left, we even watched a little of Duck Tale since my friend has got it on his lappie... woohoo.. :D

Albenham 632

Was just following my classmate to his aunt's cafe, the Lounge Cafe in Albenham. Ooooh, i like it there, a nice place. A small town with many shops and many nice cars too.. It's a place i would like to chill out. And also, apparently Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Julia Roberts and some other celebrities are regular customers at the cafe.. Too bad none of them popped in when i was there eating my sandwich and drinking my hot chocolate. Then it would very casually say hi to them and maybe become like friends, right.. Hahha..

I think i'll go there again some other time.. Not because i wanna bump into the celebs.. it's because i would like to walk around that place.. It's just 1 pound 50 bus ride there.. Not that far away from Hatfield. It's a great place to chill out.

Sensation and discoveries

Here's some extraction from a magazine i read recently. I had an idea that is similar to this months back while i was working and i emailed the idea to my sister. Instead of a trip, mine was more of a lounge experience.. Cool, eh

Hirawata says he wants to do more design tat has a storyline. "For example, a trip. I want to design the sensation that exists in the flow of the sensation that exists in the flow of time over a series of events, from when you leave the home until you get to the plane, etc. Not the design of a specific thing."

extracted from AXIS August 2006 Vol. 122 pg.29 text by Takahiro Tsuchida

The other one is also from the same magazine pg 91 by Bruno Munari which i agree on.

To do design means to continue to learn about design from one's daily experiences. I feel that it is the series of small daily discoveries, when you have moments of understnding almost like revelations, that lead to the motivation to live & create.

The little international night was okay, gathering of international students, hanging out with friends, taking pictures and a little dancing here and there and most importantly, FREE FOOD!!!! I thought there was gonna be some hot food but there were only chips, quiche, cakes, chocolates, drinks and some other finger food... But later there were pizzas, which was great!! Yoohoo.. All of us were just waiting for the pizzas!!! ahahahah..

Multilingual Birthday Songs

We had an all student project yesterday where students from year one to three combine and were divided into groups to work on a project brief. It's a brilliant way of getting to know each other. Our brief was to make a fruit peeler for either the banana or orange, without having to touch the fruit, without using any sharp or dangerous parts and keep the form of the fruit, without squashing or destroying it during or after the peeling process. It's a real challange since it's a three day thing.

Later in the night, went for my friend's birthday party at Chapman Hall. I was early so i helped out with the preparation. It was my 1st time making the curry puff like food. I was doing not bad with thte wrapping of the fillings, actually. :) (self praise)

Anyway, the kitchen was big enough to accomodate all of us. The food was good and we were just eating and talking through the night. Oh, we sang Happy Birthday song for the birhtday girl in so many lanuguages.. Wait, let me recall.. There was the main language, English then Spanish, Chinese, German, Hungarian, Portugese, Iran, Swedish.. It was really cool.. Then we had a little choir going on. The Spanish girls were singing some Spanish songs, which i really like listening to. It really was a great night. Especially with wine and cakes.. MMmmm.. mmm.. There were 3 cakes on the table, we only ate 2. Well, the girl bought a chocolate cake, our German/Indon guy friend baked a cake and the rest of us bought a carrot cake. It will be a beautiful 19th birthday for my new friend from Kazakhstan.

First day of lecture

I was feeling pretty nervous about going to class for the 1st time here and it's my FINAL year!! I know it's gonna be tough, especially i am new in this country, trying to make new friends, getting to know the university and the area around, plus having fun once in a while. So there are really lots to do while i am here and i have to make full use of it since i'll only be here for a year.

So.. yea... back to the topic. My tutor is so nice. I made an appointment to talk to him after lunch today to ask him about my main project and also where the rest of my classmates left off earlier. So, i'll have to do some catch up. He explained everything to me, tell me what magazines to refer to so that i could clarify and identify what kind of products or industry i would be interested in working on so i could start talking to people in the industry whom i am interested in working with and get some advice from them. That will be very useful. He is also encouraging me to mix with the rest of the classmates and told me who are the people i should be mixing with. Really cool. He even drew a simple map of the library, showing where i could get the product design books. (it's a huge library)

Also, he might get me a work placement, which will be great for my resume and portfolio AND experience. Gosh... :)

A night of mixture

Just came back from a friend's house at the town centre which is very new and a nice place to live in with very friendly housemates from China. We had dinner at his place with a very small group of people, a very good mix; Chinese from China, malaysian chinese(me), Indian, American and French. The host is a very international guy, i would say. An american who speaks chinese and french, interested in languages! Great, isn't it. He cooked us some pasta, pizza and chinese food (sweet and sour chicken) which tastes really good and the chinese girl cooked some vegetables with dried prawns which she brought back from China. We even had chocolate trifle as dessert and tiramisu ice-cream and yogurt. Of course the ice-cream and yogurt were bought. OOoohh.. i just love dessert!!

I had a very good night, met more friends, talked about many topics and ate very good food and not to forget, the best white wine i had so far, all the way from France. The french girls brought it! The wine's very smooth and sweet... And i am sure i will sleep like a baby tonight. *wink* :)

Camden rocks!!

Camden Town is THE place to go to in London. There are so many things to see and to eat. Anything you are looking for is in Camden Town. Well of course Camden is not the place for branded clothes or toys. If you want any of that, then maybe Oxford street or Regent street is the place to be. I am definitely going back there to get a leather sling bag which i've always wanted. I saw a shop there that sells the kind of sling bag i want. I am on a budget right now so did't get anything that saturday day trip to London.

I really think its a good experience to look at what is sold there, what most people wear there and how each shop presents themselves so very uniquely.

For toys, there's a must go.. The HAMLEYS!! Gosh, i love hamleys!! I know i am not a kid anymore but i am loving every toy in the shop, especially that laughing vibrating toy. It makes me so happy each time it laughs :D I have pictures taken in Hamleys but it's in my friend's camera so i'll put it up later.

Later after lunch, we went to the very famous shopping area, the exford and regent street, pass oxford circus, piccadilly circus, leicester square. Went to the Big Ben again and while walking to the underground, we saw some interesting chalk coloured "All you need is love" and an adorable girl drawing on the floor.

When we realised it was already 4pm, we rushed ourselves to get to the British Museum but we coudn't find it so we went to the National Art Gallery instead. Most of thmewere tired to look around so they just sat outside the gallery while me and another friend quickly went down to the -2 floor to llok at Monet and Picasso. Did't have much time to really look at the paintings since the gallery was closing soon and it was crowded in there.

Later after some many pictures we took, slowly find our way to the Tower Bridge to take a long rest sitting and chatting with a great view of the Tower Bridge. It was an amazing day trip!!

Before i end this, i remembered one thing i saw on that saturday morning when i woke up and slide open my curtains. I saw a mess outside of my house. The pictures are as below. THese students must be having real fun and maybe drunk as well..
